The Holidays and Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls.

My favorite Christmas ornament that I bought when we lived in Germany.

A Christmas ornament that I bought when we lived in Germany.

The husband helping with pumpkin cinnamon rolls.

Last year, the husband and I spent the holidays apart because he was deployed for a year in Afghanistan. We don’t always get to spend birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, etc together so we try to make the most of them when we do. We decided to hole up at home this year to enjoy Christmas, since it will be our last in Colorado. It’s been both good and bad living in Colorado, but mostly I’m thankful because we probably wouldn’t have chosen to live here if the husband wasn’t stationed here.

Crunchy Betty.

This isn’t a post about food you eat, per se, but it’s about some great natural skincare products that I like. “Food for your face,” as lovely Leslie of Crunchy Betty says.

My Photo of the Day: Miso Bone Broth and Company.

I haven’t had a proper rice cooker in some time because the one I inherited from my parents, finally stopped working. I’ve been wanting a Zojirushi for a while and I’m so glad that we were finally able to get one! I usually buy my brown rice from Massa Organics, but I wanted to try organic heirloom Kokuho Rose® Japanese rice from Koda Farms. I also got some of their organic brown rice and organic heirloom 11 grain blend (heirloom brown rice, barley, kamut, spelt, rye berries, millet, buckwheat, oat berries, red rice, basmati rice, and whole flax). Both the Japanese style and brown rice are excellent and I’m looking forward to cooking the 11 grain blend soon. Read the rest of this entry »

Crazy Mae’s.

Recently I purchased some vegan sugar cookie samples from the talented Amber of Crazy Mae’s. I’ve been a fan of her beautiful decorating skills for a while and even though I’m not vegan, all of her baked goods look so tempting. The three flavors offered are spice, lemon, and vanilla. I love how thick the cookies are and I was happy with the texture and flavors, plus they are not overly sweet. Very pleasantly surprised! I wanted to photograph the cookies before I took a bite of each, but FORGOT to put my memory card in the camera. Doh! Sorry about that.

If you would like to order cookies or other baked goods, head to her Etsy, Facebook, or Twitter pages.

Sweet business card and little handwritten note. Amber and I both have Siamese cats, so it was lovely of her to mention ours in this note. Thanks, Amber!
