It’s funny, but everytime I think about Berlin a few things come to mind: Wim Wender’s movies Wings of Desire, In weiter Fern, so nah!, obviously U2’s song “Stay (far away, so close!)” and of course President Kennedy’s speech. Every time. When I first saw the video and the movies, I remember thinking, “Wow… I’d really love to see Berlin for myself!”
I haven’t been to Berlin yet, but I’m currently planning & booking our four day holiday in November. I’m actually going to be there, wow! All the history and inspiration that live there and people always tell me how much one falls in love with that city. Traveling is amazing, especially now that we are living in Europe.
All of this leads me back to my fear of flying and what not. I have traveled by airplane too many times to count, but I always feel like it’s the first time. Airports are fun and the excitement of going somewhere different is great, but as soon as I’m on the airplane… I am usually a quiet mess.
Ever since I stopped working at the photo studio, I found that not having to worry about going to a job that was not stimulating enough for me is fantastic. This month, I will be heading to Eindhoven and then to Amsterdam where I will attend a neat creative workshop. I have written a little about that here. Then I’m hoping that tentative plans with another friend will work out to go to Rome. November is Mr. & Mrs.E time in Berlin. Hopefully my mom will visit in December, but who knows. I really want us to do something fun on Christmas… which may or may not include staying in Wiesbaden this year. After that, the next big trip for me will be back to NYC and MD. That will definitely be after the new year… it’s been a trip that has been postponed for a long time. I need to go back, and it will be for a month. Excited!!
Anyway, David and I are not big on celebrating Thanksgiving here so what better time to go than in November? So, now we’re back to the topic of flying or taking the train. It looks like Air Berlin has some good deals for round trips, actually more so than Deutsch Bahn. I’ll have to run it by Mr.E and see what he thinks, but it’s really looking like we’ll be taking a flight. Eeek and yay! I recently got some fanastic information from a Berliner, and fellow flickrette, currently living in Helsinki (Danke schön liebe Ann-Christin). As for accomodation, I have two great places in mind. At first I was thinking about staying in Mitte, but now the Friedrichshain area is looking more like something that we would like. I love, love, love planning and booking!! I’m super excited and even if the butterflies are moving around in my tummy (due to the possibility of flying) I will be just fine.
*update as of 03 Okt 2007 @ 20:58~ I’ve booked our flight! Yay! Now I’m just waiting for the quaint family owned hotel (in Friederichshain) to confirm our reservation!! Yay!!*
Bitteschön Bitteschön! Habt Spass!
Liebe Gruesse!
